Finding a counsellor can be a very difficult decision. There’s a lot of choice out there, which is both wonderful and daunting at the same time. You may be worried about finding a counsellor who’s a good fit for you; someone you can “get on with”. This is why you may want to know a bit more about me.
Who is Jason Leigh? I’ve been fortunate enough to find counselling; which I believe is my calling. First and foremost I came to counselling as a client at a transitional difficult time in my life. For many years I have worked in different roles with adults who have additional needs. I have always worked in a therapeutic manner, whilst honing my interpersonal skills to be able to relate to a wide range of people. My work soon took a turn and I began working with looked after children as a Therapeutic Life Story Worker, which involves working with looked after children or adopted children and their parent/carer to understand what’s happened in their past, to answer their questions and confusions in a therapeutic setting so that they may move forward.
I am a qualified counsellor registered and accredited with the NCS. I am currently working with three charities when I am not working with my personal clients. I began volunteering with Ty Elis Counselling Services in 2020, Ty Elis Counselling Service is a non-profit organisation which works closely with the NHS to provide a free counselling service to people who may not otherwise have access to therapy. I volunteer for one of the UK’s biggest crisis helpline who do invaluable work for those in need, and I also provide counselling to a non-profit organisation which support families who have children with varying additional needs.
Direct work is what I love most, hence taking this direction with training and ongoing work with my clients, the hope and change are both contagious to my client and myself. I started my career and training in a less orthodox way you could say, in that I gained experience of how to be and assist people before I accessed further training, this allowed me to refine the difference that made the difference to my clients, this process is a two-way thing between me and my clients. The therapy is refined and defined by both the client and myself but led by the client, it is an ongoing search throughout therapy. I feel very strongly that with support and holding the client will show us both the way that they've got to where they are and equally where they are looking to go.
